Media and democracy: a complex vinculation also in theory

Abstract

This work aims to contribute to the debate about the connection between democracy and the media. It brings together theoretical frameworks about issues such as representation and participation and intends to see how they see the media. It also analises briefly how researchers in the field of quality of democracy see the role of the media in maintaining and improving democracy. The hypothesis is that the issue is still neglected, which probably makes the debate about the relation between media and democracy weak in our society.
