Abstract

This article aims to outline the Economic Journalism’s history in Brazil from ninetieth to twentieth century, following the Sodre’s theses (2011), that the history of the press is directly related to the history of the development of capitalist society. It is also discussed the technical language of the Economic Journalism, known as Economese as an exclusionary strategy of lay readers. Finally, the way the Brazilian press treated the issue of the Telebras System workers on the roof of its privatization process is presented. It was concluded that the Economic Journalism has prioritized news from the financial market to the detriment of linked issues directly with the working class.
