Religion and Politics: repercussion of evangelical neoconservatism in the Brazilian media

Abstract

The objective of this article is to describe and interpret the larger space occupation by Protestants in party politics and how mainstream media treat the issue. For this, three elements that emerge from the observationof the phenomenon are taken based: the reconfiguration of the place of Protestant in politics; the emergence of Protestantneoconservatism; the changes in the relationship media-religion. The interpretive process is anchored in studies on media religion and culture by the author of the work and theoretical contributions in communications and politics and sociology of religion. News and analytical articles in newspapers and magazines were used as references for the study of the case and its consequences, both as a source of data and as a corpus of speeches by the characters involved.
