Abstract
In 1977, Alfa-Omega published Em Câmara Lenta, by Renato Tapajós. It was the first book to denounce the brutality of the torture enforced by the military against the activists of groups leftist guerilla. In July of 1977, Tapajós was jailed in São Paulo under the accusation that Em Câmara Lenta was a “tool of the revolutionary guerrilla”. By taking the judicial process against Tapajós as a major source, our aim in this paper is to analyze the aspects of accusation against him and the defense procedures. Additionally, the paper will explore how Antonio Candido, the most famous literary critic in Brazil, evaluated Em Câmara Lenta.
