The radicalization of democracy and the racial question in the Workers’ Party political project of the 1990s

Abstract
This paper is about political and theoretical contests regarding the idea of citizenship based on changes on partisan political projects of Partido dos Trabalhadores (working class party) in the passage of 1980 to 1990 decades. These changes were analyzed regarding a bigger or smaller acceptance of these projects regarding the themes of racial inequality, discrimination and prejudice. The political project, product of intern political contests, is the guide of the party actions in the society. Through it, are defined the party political tasks; the type of relation and interlocution with the other political forces; as well as how the power spaces of different groupings and tendencies in contest inside the party.
