Abstract
In this article I address issues analyzed in the PhD thesis "Recantilados, between law and rentism: judicial grabbing and the formation of private land property in Northern Minas Gerais", specifically the strategy developed by the local elite of the Grão Mogol County in 1920s and 1930s, that used judicial actions of division and demarcation of private lands to appropriate the vacant lands and the lands of common use of the geraizeiros peasantry and the quilombola people.
