The trajectory of the PT in Maringá (Brazil): From its foundation to the conquest of the City Hall

Abstract
This article examines the history of the Workers Party (PT) in Maringá, Paraná State, Brazil, from its creation until 2000, when the Party won the elections for the City Hall. By this analysis it is intended to contribute to the investigation of different dimensions of the practice of PT in this region and its transformation into an organized force capable of disputes the hegemony policy. Studies with this contour when establishing the relationship between the specific realities of municipality with the national path contribute to the understanding of the broader experience of the PT.
