Abstract

It is the Study of the political memory produced by groups that opposed to the Brazilian civil-military movement in 1964 known as " Grupo do Rio" (Group of Rio), under the command of the former lieutenant-brigadier Francisco Teixeira, and its involvement in the preparatory meetings for the “Contragolpe” (Backlash), planned by Adhemar de Barros, and its linkage to “FrenteAmpla” (Broad Front) of Carlos Lacerda. After the coup, the brigadier was arrested and removed from his duties in Air force for taking reformist political positions in support of Goulart government. This Group of Rio has become an important articulator of masses mobilization policy to destabilize Castelo Branco government, obtaining support of broad opposition sectors, including part of the Brazilian Communist Party. The explanation for the correlation of political forces in the movements of reaction to the institutionalization of dictatorship was based on the ideas of Rene Remond, Pierre Rosanvallon and Francisco Falcon. Thus, the research sought to understand, based on the discourses and political memoirs of those involved, the formation of oppositionist movements that acted in opposition to government movements to create a two-party system.
