Abstract

The present article searchs to analyze the memory and the history of the relation between the writer Jorge Amado and the left, particularly in the period of the Brazilian military dictatorship. It is intended to evidence that the valuation of a memory of the resistance caused disdain from the historical study to the role played for left intellectuals, as Loved Jorge, who had assumed an ambiguous position in relation to the regime. Going to the meeting of the recent French historical study on regimes authoritarian, one intends to emphasize that the double thought was intensely present in the mentality of the time and that therefore its complexity must be assumed in all and not be silenced or be forgotten.
